Hi,

RE: New to the 6.2 group

Just purchased an 85' CUCV M1008 1 ton pickup w/6.2 engine from Military w/ 50K miles, body is in good condition. Going to pick it up next Friday in Brainerd, MN area (cold!). It needs fixing, not sure condition of the engine other then it is not running now. Hope to have lots of fun w/it around the farm, plan to use it as a utility pickup. Sure I will have lots of questions once I get the truck home and start to check it out.

Congratulations on your new acquisition!! You'll love it (or hate it if it's been savagely hacked during it's military life)! Maximize its curb abhorrence by keeping the camo paint - beauty is in the eye of the beholder :D !!

Britannic I will let you know more on its condition after I check it out. How is the M1028 different from the M1008. What is a good place to find information about the 6.2 such as it torque rating?

The CUCV's are awesome trucks. Glad to hear of another one... There are a few diffrences from the 1008 and the 1028, the main one is in the Dana 60 front diff, the 1008's are open spider gears, and the 1028's have a posi-track unit. (unsure of the brand/spec's... Anyone else....?) The 1008's might not have an overload spring that the 1028's do have, as well as a lower GVW than the 1028, from what I know. There are also dual rear wheel 1028's out there, and I don't think there was a dual wheel 1008 of any type. However, my knolage is limited, and I'm sure Brittanic and others can fill in some of the points I've missed.

Enjoy your new play toy, it should prove to be a great woods truck.
