My '83 engine is replaced with one from '88 and
I'm guessing that the auto tranny is as well. The
one sitting in the truck now is a four speed auto
with converter lock-up function. It had a four
speed auto from factory, but I don't think that
the lock-up function was available '83 when my
truck was built.

Above the oil pan is a little metal label that
reads: Hydramatic, code no "06 MH M 4". Does
anyone know what that means? Could it be a from
the same year as the "new" engine or is it the
original one from '83?

I can't tell you what year the tranny is.

But, if you've got a 4 speed automatic transmission, then you've got a TH700 known as the 700R4 transmission.

Starting in '82 this transmission was used, and it was always used behind a 6.2 in light duty trucks/subs/blazers (except military).

The 700R4 had a locking TC from day one, so they all lock.

The early 700R4's were easy to hook up a manual switch to the locking TC. They were grounded internally and had one 12v wire going in. The later ones are grounded through the ECM.

Where are you from robert?

Do you have any problems with the transmission or are you just curious?

Just curious. Both engine and transmission runs
perfectly well, but for future failiures I'd like
to know exactly what hardware I have.
