Engine codes/numbers

Where can I find the engine code(s) to help determine the correct year model of an engine?
I bought this used engine (was told it was an 1988)
and I would like a more positive identification..could help me in buying replacement parts...LOL
Also, this engine doesn't have the screw-in controller like the engine I took out..It is square-shaped but in the same location....

The engine can be identified as to model year by the seven-digit block casting number - located on the bellhousing flange behind the driver's side cyl head.

Does 14022660 look right??
Where can I get the code info to decipher these
numbers...do I need to go to the dealer?
i also need some help finding a good sourc to locate a harmonic balancer....
