Hey,
Can anyone tell me about a gear vender setup on 80 GMC crew cab w/ 6.2/400T and how it would work. Is it worthwhile and is it complicated to install and the best place to get one. Also 4WD.
Thanks for any help.

Go to the 6.5 turbo forum on this sight and do a search for Gearvendor. There is allot of good info them there.

I have a 1984 crewcab 4X4 with TH400 and the GearVendor. The driveshaft has to be shorten. I wish I had put it in years earlier. The downside though little is that you have to be aware that you have to turn it off when backing up any distance. Also turn it off when using the transmission as a brake when going down a grade. It is not designed to take that kind of load.

does it work in 4x4 or is it mounted behind the tcase?

Normally mounted after the t-case, so that 4x4 split ratios aren't an option (must remember to shift the GV into 1:1, or else you'll break something :D ).
GearVendor electronics is connected to the 4X4 indicator switch on the transfer case to lock out the O.D. when 4X4 is engaged. I have not had any problem with it. The foot operated on and off switch works well. It also has a dash switch for controlling the auto engage on speed from 20 mph or 45 mph. I like the 45 mph on speed with the 4.10 ratio rear end.
