I have a'87 silverado 1/2 ton 6.2,just installed a banks sidewinder what a difference.Right now I'm running 30 9.50 15's and 3.08 gears averaging just over 20 mpg.i'm wondering if someone can tell me how big I can go without lifting the truck and what kind of mileage I can expect.thanks.

I don't know about a truck at stock height, but my K5 has 3/4 ton springs in front and a 4" block in the rear and I'm running 37s and 4.10s. There was some seriously ugly fender trimming involved, but IMHO trucks are more useful if they ain't pretty :D . After I installed the banks system on it, I got 19 MPG driving through the mountains.

My truck is pretty much the same as yours, 86 1/2 geared 3.08. I have my turbo, but still have some parts to get in the system before I install it. I also have the same size tires you have. What do you think of the performance with those tires and the turbo. I was considering going to 3.42 gears, as I don't care for the 3.08 in town. I used to get 23mpg with the 235 75's that were on it, now at about 19. So i figured that gears and the turbo would help.

The biggest tires I have personally seen on a 1/2 ton 4x4 were 32x11.5x15 and they fit the wheel well good and looked great too.

285s are the popular size for the 16" rim crowd, and they translate to be just shy of 33". I don't think that there would be any trimming needed if you're 4wd. For us 15 incher guys, 32x10.50 is also nice. A true 33" tire will tend to rub on full steer.

I'm runnig 255/85 R16's on the GMC and they rub only slightly at the rear of the inner fender when the suspension is fully compressed. They measure nearly the same as a 285 if nothing else, a little taller. If you like meaty mud tires, the Super Swamper radial 33x10.50R15 might fit about the same. This size may appear a little too big on a std height truck. Running these tires with a 0.70 OD and 3.73's I'm at about 1800rpm @70mph. No idea about mileage due to having not gone back to the 6.2 yet.
