Read through the tips page on the main page. It says the 700 r4 needs the tps to operate the lock up. Does anyone have any explaination for this? As far as I know the tps was only for the emmissions equipment on the half ton trucks that happened to be equiped with the 700. I have pretty much finished rewiring my burb and everything seems to be getting power properly including the lockup. Any ideas?

you are correct, it is used for emissions and lockup only. however if the trans has ever been rebuilt chances are the shop used hydraulic pressure to lock up the converter. I've adjusted mine all over the place and couldn't affect the lock up speed.

It won't change lockup speed, its a switch, not really a variable sensor.
Its supposed to activate at 10% throttle, eliminating some of the banging that can occur in different decel and downshift scenarios, and allow slippage under compression braking.
Some are double pole, one reostat for computer you mentioned, the tranny side should just be a switch.
There was one on my j-code '83 K20, so the 1/2-ton thing doesn't apply
