View Full Version : Rear main seal
Have a 1991 6,2 and will soon replace the 700R4 with a new one from FourthGear.
I figured it would be a good idea to replace the rear crankshaft seal when the tranny is away.
Is it most likley it is a one-piece seal?
Will it be an easy replacement or will there complications?

Being a 91, it's going to be a two piece rear main. They are not too bad, but they are not that easy either. I'm now of the impression if it ain't leaking, then leave it alone. I replaced mine and was really carefull, but it's leaking just a little, I don't know if it's the pan or the seal though.

If it is a late '91 there is a possibility that it is a one piece seal. I had a friend with a late model '91 with the 599 block and a one piece seal. If it is one piece then I would change it, but if not then I would leave it alone.
