I'm doing this on a budget, no money in it right now for a boost or EGT gauge.

But I'd like to prepare for them while I have the engine out.

Can anyone tell me where would be best to tap into the exhaust for EGT and the intake for boost?

What size holes should I drill? Tap size?

Thanks!

well if your using a 6.5 exhaust manifold, itapped in right below where the turbo bolts on ,on the valvecover side,if you look you will see a little raised square in the casting ,i drilled and tapped right on the square,as for the boost,if you are using the 6.5 upper air chamber,i tapped on the back side, pointing pretty much right at the throttle cable where it goes thru the firewall, this way the big plastic cover ,covers it up.

Here is a pic from Kennedy Diesel's website under tech-tips. Kennedy recommends installing the probe in the exhaust manifold. I haven't installed mine here, but am about to compare installing it here and on the crossover pipe on the driver's side where mine is currently.

Here is the tech-tip site on KD WS with the tap information:

On another note, to those that have installed their probe in this location, did you use the heat shield, and how much more of a PITA is it to remove and install this cover with the probe there?

Cool. I'll drill and tap for 1/4" NPT on the exhaust manifold per the link.

Any idea on the boost gauge? From that same web page I see his fitting on the intake top piece near where the short rubber hose attaches to the turbo, but only describes it as a "brass fitting".

Thanks!

Did some more research, looks like 1/8" NPT for the boost gauge:
