Help. I need the following parts. Looking for a torque converter cover (alumnium) for a 4 wheel th-400 , a low coolant switching module that goes behind the instrument cluster for the low coolant light and the engine harness to fit a 1982 6.2. Getting ready to start the motor but need the electricl correct first. Thanks !!

SWK,

It's true. A cover from a 700R4 will fit. I had to replace my TC cover (and transmission) when the flex plate parted company with the fly wheel. Another person on this board sent me a cover from a 700R4 and it fits.

I have the OE th-400 cover but the bolt holes for the braces dont line up with the braces . The centerline on the two bolts needs to be greater so I can use the braces. The oil pan is wider than the small block that came out. Do you guys still think the other covers will work ?

Here ya go. Seems cheap enough, but it is plastic.

I honestly don't know. The holes on mine are 8.75" from center of one hole to the next. I'm not sure how much those braces help. I'm currently not using them because one of the holes is striped out. I think the CUCV don't even use them but their frames are stronger. How far apart are the holes on yours?

You need to go salvage yard digging! The TH700 and TH400 covers are the same, but only for a DIESEL. What we're looking for is an 80's model cast aluminum cover with two mouting points on the cover for the bars. The bars are for stabilizing the transmission case, keeping from cracking the case, not the help the frame. The vehicles that had TH400's in them didn't use the bars (well the ones I've pulled apart didn't have them nor the mounts under the engine mount cups). The 700's required these, I think because of the length of the transmission.

So, in conclusion, you'll want a transmission "dust cover" for a 4X4 blazer, suburban, truck either 1/2, 3/4, 1 or 1.25 ton that came factory with a 6.2L. The 2WD dust covers will not work, they are a pressed steel cover, not functional for stabilization.

You know the strange part is that I have been rebuilding transmissions for 10 plus years and I never had to replace the cast cover , it has always been there. Thanks John you confirmed my thought and thanks to everyone else for the response. It will turn up as I intend to use the braces as long as they clear my home made down pipe. Thanks again.
