I found a 86 chevy K-20 with a 6.2 and a banks Turbo.
It also has
80,000 since both engine and tranny change
custom hoist under bed (to keep the body lines stright)
Lots O chrome
New box sides door and pass front fender
180,000 miles
4.11 gears
red/red
silverado
The only problems are it hasn't been painted since the box sides were replaced.
The guy wants 5,000. What is it worth? Nada says it is worth 2400. Just wnat to know how far off he is.

Does the NADA manual take into account only 80K on both the engine and tranny?
Does NADA even know what a Banks is, and how much fun and performance it adds to these trucks?
If you could get it for $4K that would be reasonable, in my opinion. Your mileage may vary, slightly higher west of the Rockies, batteries not included, no deposit - no return.

I agree it`s about $1000+/-high.With a good paint job the price would be better.Why the panel replacement,rust or dents?If rust,how clean is the balance of the body?We just picked up an`86 from the body shop today.Both bedsides and drivers door skin(all GM)replaced from body damage,not rust.The paint cost $1500(buddy price).

I havn't been able to go look at the truck yet but from his description it is very clean. I also have been told this guy is picky is it most likly is clean. The box sides aren't painted and the only slightly rusty part is that the cab corners are getting thin but not rusted through yet. It has a custom made hoist that allow the box to sit so the body line it stright. He called me last night thinking I wasn't interested (just havn't had time to go look yet) and told me is was a sliverado and had a th400 not a th700 like he told me. This bothers me a bit as I was going to drive it to work everyday. With a 400 and 4.11s even with 33" tires it is 2700rpm or so. He claims to have gotten 18 mpg but I don't know. I guess I could swap gears to 3.42s the lowest gear a 14 bolt 9.5 will take.
Highway driving in a 4.11:1 truck is noisy in the cab but you're not hurting the engine any. A friend's K2500 has 4.11s and 245-85-16s and he had no problem getting to 70ish (the truck is awaiting an engine, tranny and bodywork now.)He never cared about fuel mileage so I can't give any ideas there.

I think the price is high, considering it's not exactly what you want. You'll have to factor in the cost of the gear swap, if that's what you want to do.
I've had trucks with the 400 and 4.10 gears. It'll cruise at whatever speed you want, but the noise is terrible. I hate driving 3 speed trucks now.
I too want a K20 with a diesel, but they didn't make them with overdrive until fairly recently. I'll just have to build my own. I'm seriously considering converting my C20 into a K20.
I really like the 4.10s with the 700. It's a good setup, but hard and costly to convert to in an older K20.

I just did a build up on a 84 chevy (gas 305), for my cousin. I installed 4.11s with a locker in the back and true-trac up front. With the 700 was a great gear not to high not to low. The truck has a 2.5" lift and 33". Even with the 305 it pulled hard (added headers and duals). I guess I could just drive the 3/4 as is till a 700 comes along. The mileage can't be much worse than my 2000 chevy 4.8 (14-15). I mostly just drive 65 anyway.

There`s plenty of 700R4s around.I`m sure one can be had rather cheap.This is the ideal set-up,to me.I`d factor in these trucks are not that easy to find,but also,not alot of people want them.The Silverado shouldn`t be that bad on noise.I had an`84(35s/4.11)and it loved the hiway.You gotta love a diesel.That"clean"85Silverado that just came from the paint shop did have"thin"cab corners also.This was the only rust found.Good luck.

In most of the want ads and auto traders people want 5-6 thousand for a 73-87 4X4 in good condition. Most of these are gas. I figure the truck is worth 4 grand or so. The sidewinder is worth over a 1000 (1/2 of new) and the hoist is worth close to 400. I am going to call my auto body buddes and if I can get it painted for close to $500. Some of them owe me.
Up here an 84-87 truck will go for more than a comparably-equipped 88-92 because all the contractors, landscapers/snowplowers, skidder mechs, etc, want them for their simplicity and increased durability. Kelly's Blue Book gave a friend's 86 K30 dump w/350, 4-speed, plow and close to 200K miles a $200 higher local book value than my brother's 90 K3500 dump w/454, AT & plow and only 70K miles.
