I have asked the question and read many post here about changing the harmonic balancer on my high miler 93 6.2 C series motor. I spoke yesterday with our local reputable diesel shop and he indicated that he had not experienced any problems with the harmonic balancer, however, he thought I should change out the serpentine accessory drive pulley just ahead of the balancer. Any ideas-does your experience validate that idea? TIA P.S. I have had no abnormal belt wear or any problems with alighnment or throwing off of the serpentine belt

Carefully inspect the rubber bonding in the balancer and the pulley for cracks, missing chunks etc., any evidence of such will necessitate replacement.

I would replace both. Either one can lead to a broken crankshaft. Broken crankshafts have occurred on engines without the rubber-isolated puelleys as well.
