Can a 6.2L produce similar hp and torque that a 6.5L can if built to similar specs (ie. turbo, inj. pump, injectors, pistons, etc...)?
Thanks

Very similar, Installing a Banks turbo and turning up the stock 6.2 injection pump will get you numbers close to stock 6.5TD power. install 6.5 4911 pump and injectors, correct timing and a better turbo than what comes with a banks kit, you'll get more.

Thanks for the reply, but I didn't state my question very well, let me clarify it. I'm either going to rebuild my '87 6.2 or find a 6.5. Of course I'd like to save a little $, so I'd like to use my 6.2. My question is, if I were to rebuild both motors using as close as possible to the same specs (not stock) how dissimilar will they be? I'm not looking for a racer, just a respectable truck among my friends with cummins and strokers.

In general I think a 6.5 can be build for 300 HP and be a depenable daily driver.
A 6.2 can be build to do the same but it will need to work harder to do the same output and I am not sure about reliablility.
It should not be that much off a differance, it's only a 300 CC lees then a 6.5.
It's easier to find the performance parts for the 6.5 but exept for the pistons and timing cover it's the same engine.
19:1 marine pistons should do the trick and they are cheaper to.
In the end, 250 HP for a 6.2 is no problem as 300 for the 6.5.
take your pick :D
Peter
PS the more performance you look for the more $ you need, for a 300 HP 6.5 you need a lot
