1986 6.2 suburban. Been running great but recently the oil gauge has been going very erratic and now the needle stays solidly over to the right at 80lbs. I have checked the oil level and the engine is running fine. So before anything else could you direct me to where the sender is positioned on the block and I can check the electrical connections.

Located on the left hand side of the engine block next to the firewall should be the oil sender. It sounds like your oil sender died. It is mounted in the same vicinity as the glow plug relay.

Just an FYI, PROBABLY NOT THE CAUSE IN YOUR CASE BUT....

I just replaced the original 20 year-old speakers with some new ones. I noticed when I put in the driver side front speaker, the oil guage was affected by the speaker magnet as I put it in the speaker mount. The guage settled down, but it has become erratic and I get high oil pressure readings with the speaker in place. As an experiment, I removed the speaker for a few days, and sure enough, my oil gauge returned to normal.

Heh.. sometimes the must unlikely things.
