I am getting ready to replace my oil seal AGAIN! This particular Fel-pro seal does not have "outside" printed on one side. Instead, the instructions indicate the large seal should be positioned toward the front of the engine.

1. Which arrow points to the larger seal?? The blue one that points to the higher ridge with the more shallow furrow, or the red one pointing to the lower ridge and the deeper furrow??

2. Do the instructions mean the true "front" of the motor, or "front" as in the outside (rear)?

Thanks,

First off...I'm *NOT* an expert on this one.

However, if this seal works anything like a cup seal in a brake caliper does, then the taller end is supposed to seal in the fluid by the effect of fluid pressure pressing the seal into the bore (a 'female' cylinder) that it lives in.

Since the crank is a 'male' cylinder, the raised lip under the blue arrow is what I'm guessing is the sealing surface. And I'm guessing that the 'front' of the motor is at the same end as the front of the truck. smile.gif

Blue arrow towards the front of the truck, red arrow towards the flywheel.
