I have a 88 6.2 burb and had this problem for months and it getting worse, the controler works intermittenly if it doesnt light up i will cycle the key sometimes 20 times then it will light up ,ive replaced the contoller, fixed all the grounds even added one, even rewired the terminal connector(thinking the wires were loose inside the connector) still it works sometimes ,does the ignition switch have anything to do with the operation besides turning it on? please help loosing hope!!!!

does your '88 have the round controller in the back of the driver side head, with the relay on the driver's fender?

no, its the lastest version with the relay intragrated in mounted at the back of the drivers side head
Did you try pulling the wiring harness off and checking for voltage accross pins D & E (the 2 farthest from the empty spot in the harness) with the key in the run position when it does not light? I am having a similar problem with mine. I have voltage there, so I believe it's the controller. If you don't have voltage (or not consistent voltage), then you could have a flaky ignition switch.

Did you check the temp switch? Or do you not have one? I'm not sure what years had them but have heard they can cause intermittent problems. Good luck. John

If you have one it should be at the rear of the passenger side head. Good luck. John
