View Full Version : Replace TPS

My '93 GMC K2500 6.5L TD has occasionally been shifting hard. Shut off engine and restart and it would be fine. It has progressively gotten worse so I took in to the shop on Friday. They pulled code 22 - TPS Voltage Low. When running diagnostic the TPS shows NO output voltage. Shop said TPS needs replaced. I have one coming and will install it this week when it arrives.

The question is: Does the TPS require any calibration and, if so, how is it accomplished. Or is this a simple 'unbolt the old - bolt in the new'?

Any help is appreciated.

Setting the Throttle Position Switch:

With engine off ignition on, measure the voltage between the blue and black wires of the TPS. You can drive straight pins through the wires in a convenient location that you can use to connect to the leads of the multimeter.

Adjust the TPS to produce the following readings.

0.5 volts to 0.75 volts at idle setting.

4.2 volts to 4.5 volts at wide open throttle setting.
