Hello,
I have just purchased my first 6.2L diesel (100k miles,1985 GMC Jimmy 4x4) and wanted to know if there are some items that I should replace immediately to improve reliability/performance/economy...glow plugs?controler? etc...I know I have to get an exhaust for it since most of it was missing when I picked it up!?!
thanks

A lot depends on condition. If the exhaust is mostly missing, one would assume that it has not exactly been taken care of and the engine should be gone over. But sort of hard to say if glow plugs (or anything else) should be replaced without knowing condition or operating performance.

changing the fuel filter and an oil service to start with, air filter might need some inspection other things depent on condition and or defects.

Welcome to the diesel world, ;)

I recently replaced the mechanical lift pump and
the difference was larger than i'd hoped. Now the
truck runs (and starts) better than with the old
pump, even though the old pump was working.
