You can, but all it will do is use up oxygen that would be better used to burn diesel fuel.

Go nitrous - check out the DP feature article: Nitrous Feature Article (http://www.thedieselpage.com/reviews/nitrous.htm)

Hello all,
Can you use propane on a 6.2TD? if so is it reliable? and if so who sells one?
Thank you all,
Don

Any turbodiesel can benefit from propane injection. Reliability won't be hurt if you keep the power levels modest. The only company I know of that makes propane kits in Bully Dog, but I've never shopped for them either. As a former forklift mechanic I know enough about propane fuel systems to build my own for maybe $400 - all you need is a tank, relief valve, lockoff, regulator, vaporizer (if you use a liquid withdrawal tank), and hoses. You can use a manual switch to activate it, or rig up something like the kickdown switch on a TH400 to turn it on at a high load.

does anyone see any benefit fuel economy wise to run LP? Diesel is up to $2.80-$2.90 around here....

Typically 80-85% of the fuel injected is burned. Propane brings those numbers up to 90-95%. Less fuel going out the tailpipe seems economical to me smile.gif

Propane does cost, of course, and if you're using 1 gallon of propane for every 4-6 gallons of diesel, you should still be ahead of the game because of the more efficient diesel burning.

Hello All,
We pull a 5th wheel. Could the propane be used on long hills? or is it more for a quick boost?
Thank you all,
Don

Pulling a heavy load up hills is an ideal application for propane.

Hello all,
I remember reading somewhere on a site to add the propane before the turbo. Is it safe to add propane before the turbo? I just did not want any big booms!
thank you all,
Don

would the propane ignite in the turbo if there was a spark? or isn't it likely to ignite? thank you all,
Don

Question...

A diesel is a "compression ignition" engine, and the diesel fuel is injected near enough to TDC that the resulting explosion does not whack the piston while it's still coming up.

If you add enough propane to the incoming air to make an explosive mixture, won't the propane "pre-ignite" and result in detonation, the same as with a gasoline engine that has too high of compression for the octane of the gasoline, and detonates?

I can understand adding a small amount of propane with LOTS of air in a turbo'ed engine, but can't understand LOTS of propane into an NA engine.

What are the limits, without starting pre-ignition and detonation?

A few weeks ago, my simple experiments with a 20lb propane bottle and gas grille regulator resulted in lots of noise!

Here's how I would do it...

For a later 6.2l or turbo 6.5l, either drill and tap or TIG-weld a fitting onto the intake manifold for the propane hose. If you have an older-style 6.2l manifold with 2 CDR hoses, you can swap to the newer-style CDR setup with the valve on the passenger-side valve cover and only 1 hose, and use the other CDR pipe on the manifold for the propane.

Hello all,
just wanted to add enough propane to get a little more up the hills! this 4911 is all i can hold onto for now. Wow 15 lbs of boost! awesome
