Spline counts

Does the spline count on the tranmission only matter when selecting a Torque Converter? Or does it effect whether it will bolt up to the engine?
I'm getting a donor transmission to put on my truck, and I need to know if I'm going to have any problems with it based on it being a different year than my 83. I know it's a 700r4 but I'm still waiting on the specs.

What all do I need to look at?

IIRC, it's only related to the TC.

Should be TC related only. Yours should have had a 27 spline from the factory. Later models are 30. The 27 spline pumps were weak - get a 30 if you can.

I managed to score an '89 with Torque Converter. I'm taking the Converter at lunch today to get rebuilt...they said it would be about 90 bucks. I'm doing a writeup on my rebuild on another site if anyone is interested.
