Just wondering if anyone is using this system.
Sound like it uses pulse sensing for RPM readout.

What system?

A Google search turned up:

http://www.tinytach.com/diesel.html

Apparently it uses a transducer the fits around one of the high pressure fuel lines thusly:

Any one ever try one of these, on ANY diesel application?

That looks like the same hook-up as my Kent Moore Tach-N-Time

That's what I see - be a good start for a homemade timing setup.

GMCTD,
yeah, that's what I was thinkin'... take that, and the idea that was posted a few days ago on making your own timeing meter... hmmm.... I wonder if there's any way to harness the signal that the tach sends out... and if it would be useable in some way with the timing meter idea.

Does any one know right off hand where you can buy one of these 'tiny tach's'? I found a web site that had them, but I'm not sure if it's the diesel version that they were advertiseing. Seems to me it listed for about $58.

Try clicking on the link in my earlier post - it will take you right to Tiny Tach's diesel tach page.

This transducer will work fine in my setup and could be used in a dual setup. Normal use as tach, unplug and plug into timing meter. This is getting interested.

Nobody replied. How does one put pictures on the forum?

I ordered one of these today and will post when I get it. I wanted a backlight version so they said it would take about 2-3 weeks as they have repot the gauge.

Hi Danie,

I apologize for all of us not answering your question about posting images. First, the image has to be on some website somewhere in the world, and you need the URL for the image.

Then you go to the gray buttons below the type-in box and hit the one in the lower right corner that says IMAGE.

That will bring up a dialog box, and you put the URL for your image in there. It will say "Enter the complete URL for the image you wish to display" with a white box under it with an http:// already present. Then hit the OK box and submit your post, and you are done.

For instance, I could include a photo of myself if I were that vain by going to my company website and grabbing the URL of my picture, highlighting it and copy and paste it into the IMAGE dialog box, and then you would have to look at my mug thusly:

Any updates on this little gem? I can't help but be curious if I can use just the transducer as a signal source for my old VDO tach that came with my van...

Just got my Tiny-Tach yesterday. I plan on putting it in today or this weekend. When I get it done I will post as to results/quality/service.

Sorry for the delay but my 99 6.5 just developed an appetite for antifreeze
Anyway the tiny-tch is installed in my 84 G20 6.2 van. The company was great to deal with and the instructions are VERY well written and clear. Since I said that somebody will probably kill themselves using the instructions! :D tongue.gif
I stalled the round model with backlighting in the dash of my van, it doesn't look factory but it's alright. I used the number 7 injector line and grounded the unit to the block as-per-instructions. The tach functions properly and seemed to be pretty accurate. Just to be sure I went to a local OTR truck shop and they had a tach that I compared it with. The Tinytach was within 5-10 rpm of their tach which was the type that uses a reflective tape mounted on the engine.
My only complaint would the response time of the unit. Not nearly as fast as the other guages out there. This is probably due to the electronics and digital readout. I would think that when the temps drop to -0 up here the response will be even slower. However, the tinytach does have some other nice features such as hour meter and service interval monitor. Also mounting options are pretty good as the unit is thin(1") and can be surface mounted.
Someone was wondering about the using this unit for a timing system? I'm not sure how you would use it as all the electronics are weather-proof potted and would be a pain to get at.
IMHO this is a GREAT deal for the price as long as super fast response time is not an issue.
I also got one their small engine Tach/hour meter for my welder and it also seems to work great.
Hope this helps!
