'83 C20 pickup, idled just fine before i tore it down to replace head gaskets, I don't know if i didn't hook up something, or it is hooked up wrong but it won't stay running unless you keep your foot on the pedal to keep it revved up. Are the vaccum(sp) connections on the IP of any importance as i do not have them hooked up yet.
Thanks
look to see if you lost your idle screw on your injector pump

idle screw is still there, I didn't touch the IP at all except to take off the injector lines, so i'm pretty sure something just isn't hooked up just right

How long has the engine run for? It might still be bleeding air out?

The vacuum connections are only related for transmission shifting operation.Betting you have a TH400......works off these vacuum lines.Won't idle.......make sure the slow idle screw is adjusted properly.A bad batch of fuel will let the engine stall at idle as well.So will a restricted fuel return line.Did you remove the lines from the pump itself,or just from the injectors? If you removed them from the pump, its possible you have one of them in the wrong place.Thats happened before. smile.gif

engine has run for about 15-20mins, cracked every line for a few seconds to be sure to bleed air out, i think one of the injectors are stuck, when i took the line off that injector the engine didn't bog down or anything so i think it may be running on only 7 cylinders which could be part of my problem.

Looks like you may have found the culprit. You may want to try running it a little longer, just in case there's still some air in there. Is the inj. line properly tightened at the pump? It only takes a tiny seepage for an injector to stop popping off at the right moment.

this weekend i'll pull the manifold and check all the lines to be sure of tightness and proper location, what position does the firing order start from on the pump
thanks

Looking down at the pump, look at the rear where the lines are. This is a little hard to explain, but here goes.Directly down below where the governor cover bolt is located(one on top of the pump, but the last bolt headed toward the firewall. There are three screws/bolts)you'll see a small allen head bolt and a locking type clamp threaded into the hydraulic head.Next to the small bolt and clamp;located on the right,is #8 port, and to the right of #8 port,is the #1 port. Now,to the left of the small bolt and locking clamp is #7,then onward to the left is #2,6,5,4,3......in a circular motion.A little hard to explain, but you'll see what i'm talking about once you look down at the pump.
