oil temp gauge

Can water temperature guages be used for engine oil and transmission oil temperature gauges? My C30 has an water temp gauge screwed into a nipple welded to the oil pan. Mine is broke and water gauges seem easier to get.

Sure can the only diference is oil temp gauges read to a higher temp.
The gauge will sense any liguid it is in contact with, it dosen't know or care what liquid that may be.
I have one in use as transmission temp gauge, works fine.
