I just picked up my turbo from the rebuilder, Majestic Turbo in Dallas, and I had a chance to pick the owner's brain about them.

What's the A/R ratio, I asked?
Well, since it's not a Garrett it isn't rated the same way. The TE06H has a 14 cm exhaust housing, but it has a very big wheel in there, so he estimates it as about .57. The compressor side he said is very similar to a T4 .70. The impeller wheel is the same size as a T4 P wheel, and the compressor is very similar to one that was off a 62-1 he had setup in the shop.

He estimated that in the right application a TE06H would be able to put down 700 hp without breaking a sweat. I'll be happy with my 220 or so in the suburban.

The turbo is much more aggressive that I would have thought, but he commmented that I shouldn't be surprised. Everybody wants one in the racing world he says. In fact, the TE06H is such a rare and highly valued turbo he offered to buy it from me, twice!

Get one, and don't let it go!

So, you had your turbo rebuilt?

Thats news to me about the power output, I was thinking of using mine for a higher HP application too.

good to learn a little more on this special turbo!

P.S. great avatar!

I pulled it off for another project I'm doing, and I noticed some oil on the impeller wheel. The PO must have done more than one or two hot shut downs when he had it. All that was required was a bearing and seal kit, and it's like new now.

I also asked the rebuilder about shut down temperatures. I wait for about EGTs to hover around 275-300 before turning the key back, and he called that "more than sufficient." Up to 400 is acceptable.

dave has done my turbo stuff since the mid 90's with the hot rod mustang stuff. We looked at maps for about ten minutes and both picked the same wheel, the 60-1. However we may try the 62 after we get going.

I really don't like to have to sit and wait for the EGT to hover around 300, I did this on my 6.5TD too.

For both the 6.2TD and the 6.5TD I will be installing an Isspro Turbo Temp monitor, that will shut the engine down automatically at 300 degrees. Like this one here:

I have a friend with an CTD in his chevy and he just pulls up, turns the key off and goes inside with the truck still running. Then in about half a minute the truck shuts down. Really neat, this is ideal, because you can go ahead and lock your doors and go inside the house or back to work without the wait, especially when you drove the crap out of it and need to let it cool but you are in a hurry.

Wow. I pulled mine apart to get the exhaust housing ceramic coated, and I got worried when I saw the size of the passages - I was worried that I would be pushing the limits of its flow. Glad to hear that I was wrong!!!
