View Full Version : rear main oil leak
I recently installed a Banks Sidewinder Turbo. Now I have a rear main oil leak. Should I just replace the rear main seal or should I be checking something else first?

Greetings, and welcome to TDP....
Did you block off the CDR (crankcase vent, tuna can looking thing), or did you route it to the intake upstream of the turbo?
If it is just blocked off, the crankcase pressure would blow past the seal. The turbo will increase bypass gasses. If you routed it to the intake after the turbo, the rear seal is just the first thing to blow.
You might give us a little info on your ride. It helps.

if it has lots of miles on it it was probably due to go anyway, mine leaked for the longest time but not that bad so one day decided to change it and pulled the rear bearing cap off and there wasn't one there it was completely gone.so replaced it and now the front one is starting to seep.
Mine did the same thing when I installed the banks kit. I even replaced the CDR to try to prevent it. It turns out that 1/3 of the seal was missing. Replacing the seal wasn't very difficult.
If your truck starts spewing antifreeze out of the overflow when it's not even warmed up, it is probably the head gaskets. I know, because that was the next thing that went wrong after I installed the turbo.
