I'm trying to locate the shaft that holds the clutch and brake pedals in the manual transmission 1986-1987 full size pick up or 1988 Suburban - if anyone has one or knows a place that still may have one, I'd greatly appreciate it. TIA

The wrecking yards round here only seem to have the automatic tranny stuff these days and the Dealers and even www.gmpartsdirect.com (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com) say it's now obsolete.

Could you fabricate one out of cold rolled round bar?

Naturally, but it's a lot quicker if you have the OEM part - saves measuring, guessing and a lot of dismantling.

Whereas the later hydraulic system uses the same assembly as the automatic tranny, but uses an extended pedal shaft that has braces to support it - it's kind of hokey, but it works.

I went looking at our local Pick and Pull after reading this post. I found a 1979 GMC 1 Ton with the complete pedal assemblies. I compared the 1979 to a 1985 and a 1987 Chevy with automatic pedal assemblies which look both the same. The support for the manual assembly is different than the automatic. The mounting of both manual and automatic supports on the firewall are the same. The 1979 has a Hydraboost unit like mine. My GM 1984 parts book says that the manual assembly is the same from 1979-1984. It will probably work on a 1986. The Pick and Pull cost for the assembly is $20.00.

Britannic, What did you wind up using for your clutch?

I'm still looking for the shaft that fits my existing housing. I have everything but that one bit.
