We're in training with NAPA HD right now, and one of the presenters was from Delco Remy Powerbuilt. He told us that they have acquired AM General and are now the OE builder for the military 6.5L GM Diesel. They produce a dyno tested complete engine - only the belt, mounts and wiring needs to be installed, with a 24 month warranty.

They also produce the Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI and 7.3 DI, as well as the Cummins engines and operate a direct ship to the customer's door program.

Well....there goes Cummins - guess it won't be long afore we start seein' the ole lack-o-nickel rot in that engine, same as in the little Detroit Diesel engine.

ANDERSON, Ind., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Franklin Power Products, Inc., a Delco Remy International company located in Franklin, Indiana has signed an agreement with General Engine Products (GEP), a wholly owned subsidiary of AM General, to remanufacture 6.5L V8 diesel engines and distribute new GEP 6.5 L "drop-in" engines. Under this agreement Franklin Power Products will be the sole factory-authorized remanufacturer and GEP will provide the technical assistance and components.

All of these engines will feature GEP's new CNC machined block, which has a 20-25 percent tensile strength improvement over the 6.2L and 6.5L diesel engines originally manufactured. The new block is molybdenum enhanced grey iron, has taller and wider bearing caps, and has an optimized piston spray system as well as improved head bolt bosses. These features, coupled with Franklin Power's remanufacturing production experience will make the remanufactured 6.5L V8 diesel engines an exceptionally reliable source of power.

The new 6.5L and remanufactured 6.5L V8 diesel engines fit a variety of applications in North America, including pickup trucks, school buses and commercial delivery vehicles. Additionally, these engines are used globally in a wide variety of military, commercial and industrial applications including the notable US Army HUMVEE(R) vehicle.

The engines are available for immediate purchase through Powrbilt and will soon become available through Franklin Power's existing distribution channels.

Powrbilt, also a Delco Remy International company, is located in Mansfield, Texas. Powrbilt remanufactures heavy-duty diesel engines and supports a network of nearly 400 dealerships and fleets. Powrbilt's offering of 6.5L diesel engines includes both naturally aspirated and turbocharged types in high output and non-high output versions as replacement engines for 6.5L or retrofit of 6.2L equipped vehicles. Likewise, the short block, long block, complete, and "drop-in" engines are covered by the industry's best warranty -- nation wide, transferable coverage (100% parts and labor) up to 24 months, unlimited mileage.

Additional information is available from the 6.5L section of the Delco Remy International web site at http://www.delcoremy.com/html/products/6-5L_Powrbilt.htm .

Franklin Power Products is the lead company in Delco Remy International's diesel group and is the factory authorized-remanufacturer for the International 6.9L, 7.3L and the Ford Powerstroke engines. Franklin Power is owned and operated by Delco Remy International, Inc., headquartered in Anderson, Indiana.

Delco Remy International, Inc., was formed in 1994 to acquire certain assets of the former Delco Remy Division in a partial divestiture by General Motors Corporation. The former General Motors assets continue today as Delco Remy America, a Delco Remy International company. Today, the company designs, manufactures, remanufactures and distributes electrical, powertrain/drivetrain and related components and provides core exchange service for automobiles and light trucks, medium- and heavy-duty trucks and other heavy-duty and industrial applications. Products include starter motors, alternators, engines, transmissions, torque converters, fuel systems and traction control systems.

The company serves the aftermarket and original equipment manufacturing markets, principally in North America, as well as Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. More information is available on the company web site at http://www.delcoremy.com .

General Engine Products is a subsidiary of AM General, was formed in 1999 to manufacture the 6.5L diesel engine formerly produced by GM Powertrain. The OPTIMIZER 6500, as the various versions of the GEP produced engine are branded, has replaced the General Motors 6.5L diesel used in the HUMVEE(R) since mid-year 2000. GEP is under contract through 2007 to produce over 27,000 OPTIMIZER 6500 engines for AM General.
