Sorry for the dumb question, but I can not remember.

If I am looking straight at the firewall, there are two "ports" on the bottom of the rectangular fuel filter mount on my 85 diesel. The port on my right is the valved port where water is drained from the filter.

What is the port on the left (passenger) side of the filter mount, and should it have a hose attached like the port on the right side?

My understanding is that the upper right valve is for bleeding the air out of a new filter. The lower left with the hose is for draining an old filter. Just open both valves at the same time and it'll drain out.

These filters hold a few ounces of water which is detected by the water in fuel sensor located on the mount. If the light comes on and stays on (which it should for a few seconds at start up), I would just toss the filter and replace it. My last few filters cost me $18 at Napa.
