I was talking with a friend of mine that works for El Paso Engineering in Houston, TX. Part of that company does emissions testing and configuration for diesel generators, so there's a whole group of guys that talk about NOx, CO, and soot all day long. I've managed to snag some of their reference materials.

The rest are at: http://www.oliverdiesel.com/reference/

Thanx, this helps explain why emissions compliance is not always the best solution for power and economy.

If I click on your link, will I find similar info, but with INJECTION timing substituted for IGNITION timing ? ? ?

DieselBoy: I assume some of those Timing references (http://www.oliverdiesel.com/reference/6.97.3dynamictiming1.jpg) are for the Ford 6.9/7.3L?

Yeah, I got a couple of useful pages from a Ford manual to study before I timed a 7.3 IDI NA. It's interesting that they call for 8.5* @ 2000 rpm with a tolerance of +/- 2*.
