I've been reading for years that the 6.2 can run without the fuel pump and I just accidently confirmed it. My Suburban suddenly started exhibiting symptoms of surging at a certain RPM, rough idling, and additional cranking time to start. After driving it for 3 days, and pondering many possible causes including bad fuel, timing suddenly and mysteriously out of whack, HPCA malfunction, etc., I discovered that I had toggled off my in-cab switch for the aftermarket electric fuel pump. I don't remember doing it but I was under the dash over the weekend. Must have hit it with the old elbow. Now I will know what symptoms indicate that it's time to replace the fuel pump.
