Oil Filter Internal Inspections?

Has anyone been disecting there oil filters to
determine engine wear? IE:Looking at what is trapped in filter.

Cut mine open:

Some Alu slivers, 1/32 inch or less, not to many,
1 per 10 pleats approx.....

What would be making alu ? Eng has 300k miles on it.

There are actually several types of Filter Debris Analysis on the market. Most are just particle counters, but some can also determine wear metal concentration similar to the familiar Spectrometric Oil Analysis. Do an internet search for "Filter Debris Analysis".

Dr. Lee's the expert here, but...

Aluminum slivers often come from the piston ring lands.

Doesn't sound like you have enough to worry about.
