Hi,
I am building a truck for pulling my 19' STV outboard raceboat. I am starting with a 1977 F250 highboy 4X4 and swapping a 6.2/700R4 and am wondering what I should use for a radiator and fans. Would the super duty cooling system that came as an option be sufficient or should I be looking at a BeCool aluminiun setup with electric fans. I will be lifting it 4 inches and running 37/12.50/17 BFG allTerrains on M/T Classic II rims. I will be putting on a one piece flip front made out of fiberglas and painting the truck to match the boat. The boat is not very heavy maybe 1500LBS boat/motor/trailer. I would eventially like to build a turbo 6.2 so cooling would have to be sufficient to cover future cooling needs.
Thanks
Craig

The stock 6.2l radiator has enough cooling capacity to handle just about anything short of lugging a huge trailer over the Rockies. If you can fit it into the F250's radiator support then I'd use it. Otherwise, I'd guess a BB Ford's radiator would be enough. A friend had a 75 Highboy F250 w/390 and once he got the right thermostat he had no problems with overheating even during low-speed wheeling in the Oklahoma summer. As far as electric fans go, my personal advice would be to stay away from them. Build the 6.2l with a serpentine belt setup using 6.5l stuff, use a Dmax fan and modified fan clutch, and you'll pull WAY more air through the radiator than any electric fans could. The only advantage the electrics would have is cooling ability at an idle, when the fan clutch isn't likely to engage.
