Stopped at store today quickly and when I came out truck would not start, seemed to not be getting fuel, let glow plugs cycle a few times and still nothing, finally after 15 mins of trying it started and ran all day.
Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

I'd take a look at the online T-Guide as a first step. http://www.thedieselpage.com/members/guide.htm
Once the suggestions have been eliminated, take a look at the following member tech page.

Lastly, try unplugging the optical encoder sensor, then see if the engine will start. If unplugging the OES allows the engine to start, you may have found the problem. However, the above member links contain more likely possibilities.

Another twist to my problem, driving home today twice it gave a big shudder like the engine cut out for a second then resumed running like normal. Truck runs rough on startup and blows alot of white smoke even if it is warm. My truck usually sits for 2 weeks at a time because I drive a ford powerstoke( company truck). Also how stiff should the top rad hose get after the truck is at operating temp?
