A quick question please:

I am replacing the timing chain with a dual idler gear set from DSG. The instructions on the internet vary slightly from the instructions in my package. My package insert shows a diagram indicating all end clearance with the gears is between the gear shaft and FRONT COVER. The online instructions indicate the end clearance goes on the BLOCK side of the gear shaft (which also reflects the WRITTEN instructions). Which is correct: end play on the front cover side or end play on the block side??

Thanks!

MIKE

Hi
When i installed my gears i cut a strip of paper that i put between the shafts and the block. I then placed the cover in place without a gasket.Hold the cover against the block with one hand and pull on the strips of paper. If they come out easy then you have the clearence you need. The clearence can be measured between the shafts and the block,or the shafts and the cover,it dosn't mater where the clearence is so long as it is there. The shafts and gears need to be able to move so they don't bind up.Mine fit perfect without any grinding on the ends of the shafts.
Hope this helps smile.gif
