Just finished installing a 4911 pump and new 6.5 injectors and set the timing to approx 2.5-3*@1300rpm using my MT480. Tim at Accurate Technical Services set the flow at 65mm. The trucks is used to carry a 11.5 Lance camper. The truck runs great and responds well, it has light smoke at it's current setting however the EGT's are now too high and easily makes boost 10-12psi. Attempting to pull even a slight grade at 45-55 mph is out of the question with the camper on the truck because EGT's are too high. Engine temps also rise but are lowered when the fan clutch kicks in. I removed the camper and the truck makes good power and boost without the high EGT's. With the previous pump (4723)I never had a problem with the EGT's with/without camper and the timing was set @ 9*1400 by a local shop. The air filter is clean, the fuel pump, pump relay and OPS are new. I'm thinking play with the timing which gives me black smoke that clears of quickly and or turn down the pump. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks

What are the EGT's you're seeing, exactly? What numbers?

My EGT's climb quickly to 1100* @45-50 mph on just a slight incline, I've even seen 1200* of course I backed off right away. I can't carry a load right now. With the camper off yesterday my egt reached 1000* on about a 3%grade with my foot in it and boost 8-10 lbs.

What size of exhaust do you have?

You might have to turn down the fuel a little in the new pump. I'm not too sure. My experience with timing is limited, so some of the others will have to chime in on that one.

But I do know that a restricted exhaust can raise the EGT's, as well as simply too much fuel.

The exhaust system is 3" and was installed by banks and has approx 50k on it.

Thanks in advance,

Other than making sure that my pressure chamber and line to the boost gauge are leak free, i've done nothing trick. However it has more boost and power since installing the 4911 and 6.5 injectors.
I purchased the mt480 on ebay.

Hey Porboyz

I'm building a 1980 GMC 3500 4x4 with a 6.2/Banks/400turbo. How does the gear vendor work with that setup? I'll be running 4:10 gears. Thanks

I'm very pleased with my gear vendors unit, I bought the truck new and never liked the high rpm's at highway speeds, gear vendors lowered the rpm's and made towing and overall drivability more enjoyable. There are several units on ebay right now.
