I saw an ad for http://www.ststurbo.com/ in the 10/04 issue of Four Wheeler magazine that I thought might be of interest to 6.2L owners. Installing a turbo downstream in the exhaust system would simplify some aspects of the installation as well as make it a whole lot less expensive.

I stumbled upon one of these systems on ebay when looking for a turbo or supercharger kit for an LT1 camaro. When I found it, I thought it was the weirdest turbo install, had the turbocharger after the axle as well as the air cleaner. I thought to myself that it wouldn't be that efficient and would have quite a lot of lag being the far from the engine. Because isn't it a combination of heat energy and exhaust pressures drive the turbine? Further away would make the turbo run on lower exhaust temps. But if space is the concern, sure couldn't hurt.

John8662,

If you follow the link that More Power posetd above, it addresses all the concerns that you mentioned in their Q & A section.

Also according to them, the length of the exhaust pipe helps cool the exhaust before entering the turbo and the tubing running from the turbo to the intake act as an intercooler. Not to mention the cooler mounting location.

When I saw their turbo setup, I imagined a factory 6.5 turbo mounted aft of a Y-pipe on the passenger side. 6.5 turbos are relatively cheap, and if you're a fabricator of sorts, getting a turbo system on a formerly 6.2 NA should be possible for less than $1K. smile.gif

This is a modification that someone could easily do themselves. It seems like a good idea but I sure wouldn't be throwing out 4 grand for a kit. I think Peter might need to go to quad turbos!

As far as I can tell, these are gas engine turbo kits.
The underhood temps are more off a problem with gas engines couse off the higher exhaust temps.
( I only saw red hot turbo's on gas engines )
The high price is also for a gasser, gas turbo's are more expensive.
The banks kit in more value for your money, I think.

In my case, I build the basic set up for less then 1500 $ so yes I could have 5 off em for that money :D

anyone good with turbo calculations figure out what would be needed on a 6.2? The standard turbo sizing charts would not work (I'm assuming) due to the remote location and the cooler gasses.

Just to let you guys know, those things are laughed at in the performance industry. They've been trying to sell those things for over 2 years now, and the only one I've seen was their show car. Check www.turbomustangs.com (http://www.turbomustangs.com) and do a search for STS or whatever it is, you'll see what I'm talking about.
