I recently needed a new trans and had the 465/205 laying around. With this trans My '82 GMC is screaming at 50 mph. I want to get a better fuel mileage out of it. I'd like to do more than 45mph too. Does anyone out there have a 6.2l backed up to a 465/205 combo? If so what gears are you running?

I have a 465/241 combo, same final as your 465/205 ... 1:1. I definately feel that OD is needed as I am screaming down the highway even with 33" tires and 3.73 gears.

If you have the cash a NV4500/205 or 208/241 combo would work well for you.

Yeti,

My 2wd 84 has the 465 trans, 3:73 rear gear, 265/75-16 tires. The engine can roar at the speed limit. It's funny, but my 83CC with a 4:10 gear and a TH400,the exhaust note is quieter at highway speed. An OD would be helpful. Been thinking about it.

Snowman, Since the clutch in my truck is manual (rod & linkage) how well does the newer NV4500 / ZF/6 transmission fit with the existing clutch, or is an upgrade necessary?
