View Full Version : Tuff tires for my Van?
What are you guys seeing as good street tires for tread wear milage. I'm currently running "Bronco" LT 235/75R tires on my van. These are load range "C", 6 ply tires. My tire dealer says these are the best for the price (around $100 each). When I first got the van it was grinding the 4 ply tires off the front end. Suggestions?

I am running 255/70r15 xtra load tires on my c10. They are Kelly Chargers....great ride, quiet, wearing well. I carry a 1500# camper (without extras) on them and tow boats all summer long. Nice tires, I'd buy 'em again. Look nice to boot !!!

Back in mid-2004 I put a set of LT235/75R15 Michelin LTX-M/S on my '88 Burb. Almost 60K later, they still have decent tread, are releatively quiet, and handle well in rain. They ran about $600 at Discount Tire. I've replaced one with their lifetime warrantee, and get my money's worth out of free lifetime balance/rotation. I run 45psi all around; really happy with the Michelins.

Do you think the locationof the engine in relationship to the front wheels has a lot to do with it? Are the Michelin LTX a six ply tire?
Vans are notoriously hard on tires - due both to the heavy weight bias towards the front and the tendency towards plowing because of the front-end geometry.
Rotating tires often is important - my tire guy recommends every 3k miles (yikes! - like THAT's gonna happen!). Either way, tires will wear out a bunch sooner than on a pickup (all other things being equal). My van wasted (like pretty much bald - way below legal tread) a set of BFG Commercial LTs in about 25k miles, but to be fair, I should specify that my alignment was bad for part of that time due to a faulty alignment job.
Good luck out there
