diff question

I have a 1982 6.2 diesel 4by4, my rear diff looks in bad shape, can i swap front diff to back without causing any problems

I'm not an expert but I'll give you my 2 cents. I believe if you were to swap, they would wear out rapidly, it would be like driving in reverse at freeway speeds. The gears are cut for more strength in one direction (forward) than the other. Read disclaimer above. Good Luck. John

The front differential is almost always not as sturdy as the rear because it is only used occassionally and as additional drive, not exclusive drive as the rear is. I believe you would regret putting the front differential on the rear. I suggest you look at salvage yards or classifieds for a cheap used one!
