My 1982 6.2 Silverado 4x4 Banks Turbo has a normal glow plug lamp sequence and start instantly. The cycling continues beyond normal at 2 seconds on each 10 seconds. Batteries are charged but alternator output is suspect. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Shig

Most likely suspect is the glow controller or the inhibbit switch.
If either one of them goes bad you might experiance constant glow cycle.
The controller is filled with resistors and bimetal switches.
Those switches can give a error like yours.

PS.

In the early years reprints are excelent articles about both the early and later type glow controllers.
This might be a good reason the buy them all ;)
Best investment I ever made for my truck.

I have a 1983 6.2L Diesel w/Banks Turbo. I bought it used several years ago. After replacing the glow-plug controller twice in the first year and a half for the same symptom you have, the problem returned again. The glow-plugs were failing quickly also. I bought a 50A momentary pushbutton switch (designed for ignition switch), installed it in the dash and by-passed the glow-plug controller. I have never had a problem since. No glow-plug failures since!

I will follow thru on your suggestions. Many thanks for your reply and interest. Peter, I've read your turbo project write-ups and they're great. Stray Cat, welcome to DP.
