Hi gmctd
Was admiring the pic's of your truck. My question to you is about clearence around the turbo down pipe in the older body style. There isn't many GM diesels around here to compare or measure.I have a stock turbo manifold lined up but was unsure if it would work.Any problems with yours?Did you use all stock parts?
Apreciat any help or advice.
Thanks

Hello Canada!

The downpipe is fabricated\modified from factory 6.5TD version.

Absolutely no room for stock configuration in the '87 body-style frame.

'88-up frames head outboard there to become perimiter-type configuration.

Earlier versions run close to the engine at that point, spread slightly at firewall, then straight back to rear bumper.

Engines sit lower in 4wd frames due to 1"higher kickup, required for straight-axle clearance.
Upper rail is "clearanced" at that spread to clear big-block exhaust manifolds.

2wd version requires cutting that clearance, which I did, as my truck was originally two wheel drive.

The downpipe can be dropped thru the frame rail at that point.

Main exhaust system is from late Ford crew cab Diesel truck - it's high quality stainless steel, 3.5" back to rear exit.
