Shopping for an intercooler for my 95 3/4 ton 4x4.
I can find kits from Kennedy and turbonetics/spearco and thats it. Other than do it myself, are there anyother "kit" options out there?

Alf, I searched the internet for weeks looking for ic kits that would fit my truck. I also had to fit the ic into my budget. The kits I found are the same ones that you found and a lot of the members here like them. I probably would have bought the JK large spearco if money wasn't an issue. I studied my engine compartment and took alot of measurements to figure out what size intercooler I could fit on my truck and where I could run the pipe from the turbo to the ic and ultimately to the intake. Found all the materials on ebay and saved about 600 bucks and I have the pride of knowing I engineered it my way with the help of a few of TDP members. If your not a d.i.y. kinda guy and money is no object, go jk lg spearco.

99gmccrew's intercooler installation is proof positive that with enough work and patience, one can engineer their own kit at half the price of a retail kit without sacrificing quality.

For our 96 6.5TD, we've found an older Cummins IC that should work well in front of the AC condenser behind the grill. The suburban sees some trail time at the deer lease, and the idea of hitting tree stump and killing an IC mounted in place of the skid plate isn't appealing.

Ultimately, an IC system and location depends on what kind of duty your truck typically sees, how much time you have, and how much your time is worth.

Alf,

The JK intercooler is Spearco. A somewhat less expensive "kit", and smaller, is sold by Turbo Technology, Inc. I'm looking at the possibility of installing a Bell Intercoolers unit in place of my front grille. This IC is thinner and has more surface area than the big Spearco so it should be more efficient. Unfortunately, the wife isn't too happy about the prospect of me cutting out the grille.

Thanks, every one, for the input!
99gmccrew, I have studied your instalation, very nice! The links to part sources are very helpful.
Im defintly going with the low frame mount any way I do this. I beleive that the cooling system is burdned enough already without adding more heat to it.
Spin' The turbo technolgy cooler sure gave me some insight as to how much is enough, maybe the "K" systen is overkill for me. sure is purdy though.
I'll probably go the home brew route, I really want to see all my options so I can use what I feel, are the best features of each.
Any other ideas out there?
I'd really like to see more pictures!!
