Mpg on a 95 1500 4x4 z71 3.73 gears 26 gal tank,about 275 per tank.What can I check. Changed fuel filter,air filter,runs good,don't smoke,aveage power.running 285/75/16.Only had the truck about 6mths

I have the same tank set up and around town and so for I get 275 to 350 miles per tank regularly
depned on how hard I push, how full I fill tank. It takes a bit of time to FILL to the neck because of foaming that makes as much as 5 gallons diffence 5X15 =75 miles. Winter blend fuelmakes a difference around here most winter blend is 30% #1. To check mileage you must fill consistently.

Wow, I'd have been unhappy with Courtableau's mpg - I consistently get ≈ 21 mpg in the summer. Maybe I better not change anything

Courtableau, You need really need figure mileage the correct way,unless you know you have 26 gal in it and run it completely out of fuel. I know I have a 35gal tank and when the gauge is about in the red I still have about 10 gals left. I get 14.5 mpg on winter fuel, empty.

Please don't take offense (none is intended smile.gif ), but unless you intend to keep really accurate records of miles driven vs. fuel purchased, & do it for a LONG time, you have no idea what mpg you're getting. You also should check your odometer, which is pretty easy to do on a long highway trip, using the mile markers.

Fuel economy really is my only hobby, so I've tried to eliminate variables for the sake of knowing what my true numbers are. (Yeah, it's not much of a life, but it's mine. :rolleyes: )

I have a '97 5-speed ex-cab shortbox, which also has the 26-gallon tank. My truck isn't stock (no internal mods to the engine though) but I have been getting 16-17 in mixed driving (I'm in the Boston area,, so even highway driving around here isn't very consistent) on winter fuel. I always make sure I fill the tank to the top when I fill up, b/c I'll lose about 4 gallons if I just left the pump shut off when it wants to. I get about 375-415 miles to the tank (again, I make sure its totally full, b/c I fill up about every 5 days anyway.) The best way to calculate mileage is to always go to the same pump, always fill all the way, and record the miles driven. You should also check your odometer against mile markers to see if its accurate.
