View Full Version : Who has installed a rebuilt IP?
Or should I say has one on their truck.
Are you satisfied? Cold and hot starts good? Power good? Any issues at all?
Feed back please on Stanadyne rebuilt pumps
Thanks
Buzz
I had my electronic pump rebuilt by Accurate Diesel, a vender I learned about here, and have had no problems.
Will you briefly explain your IP symptoms?
Thanks
Buzz
Hey Buzz I'll give ya the full scoop on mine when I get it back from the shop.

How much are those Stanadyne pupms?
600 to 800 rebuilt and 1000 to 1200 new.

Well I just got my truck back this morning so I'll let ya know how it starts tonight.
- 1,100 for the (5459) pump
- 25.00 for coolent temp sensor
- 68.00 for glow plug controller
- 18.51 for pump install kit
- 29.25 misc stuff
- 822.25 labor
incuded tested all glow plugs, compression test all cyl, pump replacement, coolent sensor, filter housing hose, glow controller replace. Tech said a few cyls were around 350-360 psi which still may be a problem. suggested injectors seeing they are original, however I am out of money.
Total w/tax $2,176.00

When the IP failed on my '94 Blazer (lots of miles, no complaint on longevity), I went through 2 rebuilts from DIS in TX, and finally they refunded my money (which shows what good folks they are) and finally a GMC dealer installed a new pump and a new chip. Seems to me like the rebuilt pumps were throwing codes 35 or 36. DIS said there wasn't anything wrong with the rebuilts, they just sold them to someone else who didn't have any problems. Might have just needed the new chip. And, the Blazer has the light duty 6.5TD config, which differences I'm not knowledgeable about, so your experience might be different.
Say, Buzz, where are you getting your rebuilt pricing, as I thought I saw higher $$ online recently. IIRC, I paid about $750 (<$800) about 2 1/2 years ago for the rebuilt pump, but the 2 extra R&R labor charges negated any advantage. Seems like dealers will only install new pumps, at least if you want any kind of a warranty on the job.

Sorry for the delayed response. My Suburban had 150K on it when the block cracked, and the injector pump was replaced at about 20K by GM. There was nothing wrong with it at the time I had it rebuilt I just figured with a new engine why put a pump with 130K on it back into it when that is about the expected length of service for this type of pump.
