View Full Version : 33" Tires On 2500HD BURB

I have been bouncing around the web and found some talk about the 2500HD using 33" tires w/o any mods because it's suspension is about 2" taller than the 2500.

When parked next to a same year 2500 burb, mine does stand taller all around. So, I am thinking about going the 33" tire, but load rating becomes an issue too.

I see a torsion bar adjuster kit to upgrade the 2500 to 2500HD height @ about $100. Yes, I know that the torsion bars are different too, but if adjusters work for those w/o the 2500HD option so they can use 33" tires, it is much cheaper than a lift kit, or other mods!

Any of you with hands on with this, or?

I have 33 on my LD 2500. They fit at stock hight but I had the torsion bars turned up 1" to make the truck sit level. Hope this helps! cudaaa

I have a 95 Burb with 33 12.50 16.5 on it and only had to turn tortion bars and raise front to allow for turns. Still rubs on runningboards when makeing hard turns and goingover something at same time but only when tires are New.

Very nice looking 'burb! Where did you get your hood from and how much was it? I recently had an incident involving my hood (I won't mention the details of the incident  )

DA BIG ONE - I believe he used 2" blocks in the rear and cranked up the torsion bars in the front.

Great looking truck! Hard to believe it's 11 years old! What makes a Suburban "HD"? I used to think that an "HD" truck had a boxed frame instead of C-channel, but I recently looked under a 2004 Silverado and it was C-channel (unless GM made changes to the newer model years?).

According to the parts man at General/GMC the vin shows my 99 burb as an HD in their system, then went on to explain about the suspension provisions F60 increased rate torsion bars-higher rate rear springs, steering, and frame parts being different than the reg. 2500 burb.

It does sit real high off the ground too.

Thanx guys!!, my truck has a suspension lift, i never touched the body, i got a 2 inch spacer between the axle and the leaf springs in the back, and in the front i cranked the torsion bars up a few turns. My wheel offset is -24mm in the rear, and +2mm in the front because our burbs have a wider axle in the front so i evened it out. as far as my hood, the company that makes it is called Goodmark, and i bought it from some little body shop in my neighborhood.

All of my wheel openings measure 37" from the ground to the bottom of the flare, so wondering what other 2500 4wd 6.5 td Burbs w/stock suspension measure?

I found 2 items at ORU,

1st; For IFS is 2500HD torsion bar adjuster cams which give 2" lift w/o stressing the torsion bar,

2nd; Rear leaf spring shackle mounts that replace spacer block lifts.

kind of off topic
wanted some opinions, my truck has been in the family since new, my grandfather ordered this truck, and i took it over from him. My warranty is due in march of 2005 for the injection pump (my in service date is march 94) my truck still has the original injection pump and it has 130,000 km on it. The truck runs beautiful, the only time it was at the dealer in the past 10 yrs was for the FSD that was screwing up 2 yrs ago, other than that everything has been running perfect. this truck has absolutely never gave us one bit of problems, now before the warranty is over should i see if i can get a new injection pump installed, or just leave it alone???

Tony,

That's one, beautiful truck. It looks as though I'll be spending the weekend doing some waxing. Gotta' keep up with the Jones'. ;) Is your hood an active cowl induction?

I believe there was no HD designation for the 2500 Burb. All 2500 Suburbans with the 6.5 TD option came standard with the F60 front end. The "heavier duty" front end that the F60 package provided was necessary for the heavier weight of the diesel engine. A Suburban 2500 gasser and a Suburban 2500, 6.5TD are both rated at 8,600 # GVW. That's not the case with the pickumups where the HD classification provides a GVW of something like 9,200 #.

Thanks for the input, maybe the parts guy is blowin smoke up my __, anyway, wonder if the other burbs measure the same 37" height?

36 1/2" front, 37 1/2" rear. That's with 265/75 tires, though - which (if I did my math right) should add 3/8" to the height.

Petrella, with your gear setup 3.73, those tires, & 1800 rpms what speed are you at?

I think peak torque for our 6.5's is @ 1800 rpms, maybe a little lower w/IC.

I ask because, I already went from 4.10's to 3.42s for better mpg on highway, and thinking I may have to go back for the 33" tires.

On the Eagle site I only see a listing for 16x8" w/+2mm offset, the 16x10" shows -24mm, you special order the fronts?

actually i got 16x8 rims in the front, and 16x10 in the back. i did this so the rear axle looks as wide as the front. and as for the rpm, im not sure im gonna have to pay attention to see what speed im doing at 1800 rpm. i know my speedometer isnt accurate though, but ill try to figure out my speed.

To answer the hood question. The goodmark hoods are a functional cowl hood, for airflow. I have one on my 95 K2500 Suburban. I wish I had updated pics of my sub since all my appearance mods. I only installed my hood for added under-the-hood cooling, its freaking hot under the hood of these rigs on a hot day! I do miss my bug deflector now with the new hood, although that would look kinda funny on a cowl hood, what do you guys think?

Anthony If you did not calibrate the speedo forget my request cause it would not be helpful anyway.
Thanks
