Well it looks like I may be able to talk mama into a newer truck this year. I'm hoping to get into a Duramax. My question though is what can I expect to get for my current truck. It is a 1994 Chevrolet Crew Cab with the 6.5 TD 2WD. Kennedy 3.5 exhaust, Kennedy cooling mods, decent condition. Give me your opinion

It's pretty darn hard to put a value on a truck that old with out a few more KEY details. Like mileage. That truck could be worth $8000 or it could be worth $1000 depending on its condition and the mileage. So there's your estimate.

Goto www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com) and www.nadaguides.com (http://www.nadaguides.com) , enter your truck's options, condition, etc and that will give you a ballpark figure. Add a bit for your mods if desired.

Also take a look on ebay to see what similar trucks are bringing. Also take a look see on truck trader.

Shuck is correct, value depends on many things.

There are also Regional differences. Here in Montana 2 wheel drives sell for much less than 4x4's where in other area's the discount maybe less for 4x2. Miles also make big differnce as if I was look for a 6.5TD I would be willing to pay significantly less for one with 250,000 miles than one with 100,000 miles. Even if the truck had newer engine as the rest of the truck would be more worn. I would also look if I was buying it to try and figure out if this truck was used to tow heaver loads, by looking to see if it had either a 5th wheel hitch mounted or goose neck. I would also look to see if there is evedence of being drive a lot on gravel. I drive on gravel every day and it hard on truck compared to pavement. So figure it out you know your truck better than anyone.

My opinion, based on your first post, is...

You will always do better selling you vehicle privately.

To find the value, or your asking price, you gotta seach various sources, blue book, black book (not sure in USA) and ebay and other various (here in Canada we have "autotrader") auto selling websites that will give you a ballpark figure.

Do your homework, determine a price, sell private, shine the thing up as best you possibly can, and make the dealer an offer he can't refuse on the d-max.

Take your time selling the 6.5. Even if it takes a while, If you can afford to not trade, it will be worth your while, and somebody will want it.

My opinion, worth exactly what you paid fer it, and the way I'd do it.

Bob

I think you could sell it privately for 4,500-6000 at the most ,good luck. The dealer will only give you about 3,000 off the new truck,in a trade.

Thanks Nigel, but I bought the powerstroke the same day I sold my 6.5. It all came down to rear seat leg room and with two teenage boys, the Ford has the chevy beat....

If you are happy with the price you got, then it was a good deal for both buyer and former owner.

You don't say what year Ford you bought, or the body style, but boy, (as a felloy 94 chev owner) I will tell you that IMO the newer ones at least (a friend has an 03 SD F250 PSD), and they are NICE! (looking, sounding and riding)

I went all out. I got a 2005 F350 long bed, crew cab, 4x4. White with tan along the bottom. lariat interior. If this thing treats me as well as my chevy did it will be a long time before I give 'er up.
