Lost 4x4

A couple of months ago (during a snowstorm of course) I shifted into 4 wheel and it would not engage. I stopped to look at fuses and the tcase fuse was blown. I changed it and it had no effect on 4 wheel drive. I have the floor shift with the light. The four wheel light does not come on either. Anyone have this problem before?

Was it always slow to disengage? Does it engage now that it is warmer? The old system used a thermal heating unit that engaged the front axle and was prone to failure, especially when it is cold outside. GM makes a replacement for that actuator that is more reliable, if it is indeed the problem.

the exact thing happend to my truck(94 K3500 srw)last year. I dont have 4wd now.I talked to my dealer and they wanted aprx 200.00 for a new actuator, and 200 for a new wiring harness to run it. Im giong to buy an aftermarket kit that ingages the axle manually. I have seen it in 4 wheeler mag and jc wittney. Benifits would be instant 4wd, no electricts, use of 2wd in low range. I back my trailer into a lot of sites on pavement were my clutch takes a beating. I think it is 200 or cheaper.

How does the OEM unit cause excessive wear and right axle breakage?

Does anyone know which part has actually failed? Assuming the standard problem, there is an actuator in the right half of the front axle that has stopped working.

Confused about the fuse going though. Didn't happen when my 4wheel went out, it just took a long time to engage. That was on my old gasser. I need to do it to my deisel, but it is still working now if I'm patient.

On the posi-lok, the only problem I see is it will take two actions to get 4 wheel, moving the lever and pulling the posi-lok. I'm thinking of the new GM alternative, but with a switch in. I can leave the switch on and it will only get power once the lever is pulled. If I pull the lever, I have 4 wheel. But I could turn the switch, pull the lever and get 2 lo. Accomplish the same thing, but be a little easier to use.

But the Posi-lok is a fair bit cheaper.
