Welcome to "The Page".
The truck's ECM probably didn't see enough boost pressure when it was calling for it. Most of these trucks are vacuum controlled boost. You probably have an EGR valve on top of the Intake as well? These are the only things the vacuum pump is controlling through the engine ECM. Driver's side rear, on top of the head, you might find three electronic solenoids on a metal bracket. The first one controls the waste gate for boost and the other two control the EGR functions. These don't last too long due to heat.
At the turbo, engine off try to move the waste gate rod (small diameter going into an actuator on the turbo's side). If it slides back and forth now start the truck, it shouldn't move. You need 20" vac. to move it. At the waste gate solenoid pull the vacuum plug off, you should have good vacuum here.
Most likely the solenoid failed. If you look out the side mirror when you jump on the accelerator you should see lots of black smoke when this quits.
You have other options for reliability. Other members will chime in on what they've done. This is the BEST site to get answers hands down, welcome aboard!
Thanks Charliepeterson. Now I have a starting point. (no egr)
