Hi, folks - me, again......or, still......

Anyone with a '95 3500 6.5TD and 4L80E with a Heath or Kennedy chip, and still has the original chip?

I need the 4-digit number to order the correct 4L80E hot-chip for one last experiment before I bail out.

Has to be 1995 for OBD-I, but not the unique 5068 Inj Pump version.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated, as always.

I don't know if this will help. But I have the Original chip number for my 94.

You lost me. What are you looking for a hot chip?

Thanks for the replies, so far.

Briefly (yeah, right!), John, I built the truck with a T400. To avoid the auto drivetrain codes, I used a PCM from a 3500 with manual transmission.
It currently has the Heath V2.0 chip

I'm selling the truck, and had priced it at 7500 minus the Spicer auxilliary transmission, but the rpm's are just way too high with the 4.10's, and anyway, I've been wanting to see how it would run with the 4L80E, which I just happen to have, along with the adaptor I machined for the NP205 T-case.

I had originally installed the 4L80E wiring harness as future optional, so all that is needed is the 3500 PCM and corresponding chip, which I seem to have misplaced.

A couple weeks work for the install (driveshaft rework) won't kill me, and should increase the driveability.
And, help move it quicker.

Just hope I don't get to liking it too much, again, before it sells..........

So, yes, I need an upgrade chip, but do not have the original chip code to ensure I get the right version.

As you know, GM\Stanadyne had a hi-perf Inj Pump for the 94-95 F-series 6.5, a Model 5068, and it's chip is not workable with any other IP.

My IP is a 5521, installed last year when I did the DSG gearset.

So, what happened to the Cummins conversion?

Wow, why sell?

I'd loan you my eprom from my K2500 vin F burb because I won't be able to use it for quite a while now...

But Ronnie has you covered if you want that.

I have the floor shift 4x4 case, so no autotrac (if it was even available in 95) but at least no push button 4wd.

I second the "what happened to the cummins conversion" question..

I've got a friend locally that did the cummins conversion in an 86 CC 1 ton, sweetest thing I've ever seen..

Basically, in answer to both your question, I spent the project money to get my Bro' a 3500 club cab Dodge CTD 5-spd dooley for some long-haul car moving, but he didn't like the truck.

I got in, started it, shifted to low, let in the clutch, and, folks - it woulda taken Sheriff Buford Pusser to evict me from that cab.

'course, it don't have 17 cup-holders like a Chevy, but one Mountain Dew usually lasts me between stations, anyway.

'sides, what if you put a half-eaten order of Popeye's popcorn shrimp in one o' them 17 cup-holders, and then fergot about it till sometime after the trip?

Convenience can be contageous, ya know.......

So, what I need is the 4-digit code - BNTK for example, for a 5-speed manual - off the oem chip for some 2500\3500 comparison.

And, BTW, ronniejoe - excellent work on your rebuild\upgrade. Hopefully, a thing of beauty will be a joy forever.

Not sure if this would help--

>Anyone with a '95 3500 6.5TD and 4L80E with a Heath or Kennedy chip, and still has the original chip?

vs

>So, what I need is the 4-digit code - BNTK for example, for a 5-speed manual - off the oem chip for some 2500\3500 comparison.

I do drive a '95 3500 with 4L80E, and have reason to believe the PCM/eprom is probably oem ... and i would be willing to make an attempt to remove and examine it, and record the identifying numbers/letters .

I'd like a tad of guidance regarding the pcm removal . I got the glove box out to check on the blower relay+resistor , intending to clean/reseat the pcm connections as well --but chickened out , unsure what to hold/push/unclip/unscrew??

Congrats , 'free at last'! Glad you and Tim survived Katie and Rita.... t m.

P.S. :
there's a fair probability that my PC won't work for a while ... but i'll be back.

The PCM is in a tray behind the glove box, above the HVAC unit, held with 3 - 6 #10mm nuts, iirc.
Remove each one, and the PCM can be droped outta the tray, with a little effort.

(My truck had no PCM, and I do not remember the vintage truck I removed the tray from.)

Be careful when guiding the harness out of it's cramped location.

Corvettes and Cadillacs used a pinkish dielectric grease on the harness connectors - dunno why these expensive Diesel trucks were not protected in the same manner.

Thanks, Tom

With my chip it does not matter. So long as I know trans type and I have pump number I'm good to go!

That's the way it should be, John, imo.

VIN S, VIN F, manual, auto, with the 5068 being the only real kink.

I just happen to have the old ECM from my 3500HD out on the bench because the dealer won't take it back for core because the mechanic (parts changer)lost the return box. The prom is still in it if the number will help.My truck is a 95 3500HD 6.5 diesel with a 4l80e.It says blue on it and the # is BXRK 1624 4873.hope it helps. tongue.gif

What was the core return value, landrea?

And what was the failure symptom?

Still haven't made a 80HP  chip though so I suppose in that respect we are behind. :D

VIN "S" what is that? ;)

I'm still unclear what you want. You mention Hot chip???

I saw mention of BNTK which is manual.

If I follow you are looking for basically the OE part number for a chip like RJ or any other mainstream 6.5 F engine 4l80E would use? I'm sure I could provide the number if I understood what you wanted. I can also likely provide the new OE chip also...

Needing several things, John (and thanks for taking an interest), but mainly now an OBD-I PCM for a 3500 with 4L80E.

There are different part niumbers for a VIN F 2500 Suburban and a 2500 VIN F truck, with even more totally different numbers for a 3500 SRW and 3500 DRW truck.

As well as many other seemingly countless and totally different PCM numbers.

As Carl Sagan would say - billions and billions............

You'd think the VSSB would be the contributing difference, but, NOOOOOOOOOOOO............

Be much simpler to have had a PCM for automatic - 4L60E or 4L80E - and a PCM for manual, which the Calibrator would differentiate (and does), and with the eprom calling the fuel vs advance curves for the various GVWR.

(It probably does fall within that scheme, but the countless listed numbers are useless without a reference, which I'm trying to get, here.)

I'd like to take a look at the PCM core landrea has, since it's from an HD, and, providing the magic smoke has not been let out of some of the chips, offer some recompense toward the forfieted core charge.

(You out there, landrea?)

And, there you have it in a nutshell, folks - well, maybe more like a 20gal washtub.

And, you're right, John - BNTK was the 3500 with NV4500 5-speed eprom in my PCM, from the Z-71 donor truck.

Got that one from Best Auto Parts, where they have everything cataloged against the VIN of the contributing vehicle.

OK-
My rig is a light regular cab 4wd SRW K3500 HO engine codeF , with 4L80Eauto. The VIN is: 1GCHK34F5SE204330 . The brake system is JB8 for SRW ; the GVWR is only 9200 lbs.
I removed my ECM module . It (galvanized steel case?) is labled: SVC #: 1621248 {or maybe SUC #:1621248}, "Factory Authorized Remanufactured
module for Delphi Delco Electronic Systems..."
The sub-barcode numbers are:
86BPAAM151033513
***
The requested Prom ID is: BXPW 1624 4781 .
* * *
I think the prom may need to match both the transmission type and the GrossVehicleWeight.
Pg 5A-14 Helm notes Spex for Brake Systems-
JB5/JD5;JB6JD6;JB7JD7;JB8SRW;JB8DualWheel;JF9.
JB7/JD7, JB8-SRW and JB8-DualWheel all share the same rear brakes [13.00 X 3.5" Duo-Servo].
JB7/JD7, and JB8-SRW share same front brake , 12.5-inch X 1.26-inch discs. The JB8-DualWheel has a slightly heavier front brake, 12.5-inch X 1.5-inch disc . The JF9 Brake System has much greater capacity--in front, 14.25 X 1.54-inch discs , and in rear , 13.75 X 1.54-inch discs.
I assume 'HD' = JF9 , probably your requirement.
Landrea's code/PCM/PROM is probably the thing.
In the Helm General Info chapter there is a box labled GVWR/BrakeSystem. There is codeB=3100-4000GVWR ; codeC=4001-5000GVWR ; codeD=5001-6000GVWR ; codeE=6001-7000GVWR ; codeF=7001-8000GVWR ; codeG=8001-9000GVWR ; codeH=9001-10,000GVWR ; codeJ=10001-14,000GVWR ; finally
codeK=14,001-16,000GVWR.
This GVWR/BrakeSystem code represents the fourth place in the alphanumeric VIN designation. Landrea's 4th VIN digit is probably 'K' ; you might get by with one from 'J' or 'K'. Mine, as above, is 'H'.

Always a source of timely information, Tom, I do believe you've gone and outdone yourself this time! ;)

Good stuff - no, excellent stuff. Thanks much.

And, thanks to all who've contributed (and you know who you are!)

Still. no match for the handful of PCM's I was shown, so there's a good likelyhood those were not even Diesel PCM's.

And, you're right, Tom, if landrea's HD is the straight front axle 1 1/2 ton version with 10 lug 19" wheels marketed as a 3500HD to avoid the commercial licensing\permit\taxation stuff.

I thinkso that be the PCM I be needin'.

Hmmmmm..........wonder where landrea and his non-returnable core got off to?

Sorry guys,I've been kinda busy and my better half(ya right) has been hogging the puter.I still have the pcm(core not returnable without the original box)This is the BRAND NEW rebuilt pcm that was installed but would not start the truck and after 10 hours of paying the dealer to trace wires and consulting with the GM tech line who  by the way told the tech there must be a wiring problem in the harness and to advise me to replace the harness that come to find out is unavailable  only to find the new pcm was bad.So now that i've kinda cooled down, I have a $200.00 core pcm and a used prom I don't need, anybody got a return box for a 95 pcm you don't need or want to buy a pcm and prom?

Send it to me at an address I'll email to MORE POWER - Jim Bigley.

I'll plug it in my running truck - now with a 4L80E - if all is well, I'll send your wampum via same channel - send your address thru email to Jim Bigley.
