I had noticed that my suburban was idling rough as of late and seeing as it is almost at 190,000 miles, I decided to replace the torsional damper. I picked up a new one from the dealer on Sat. morning and replaced is that afternoon. I does run a lot smoother and the old one had the rubber starting to extrude from it. I looked in the members section and looked up the torque values and it said 140 ft-lbs to 160 ft-lbs and 200 for 85 and up. I got mine torqued to 150 - is that what is was suppose to be?

I wonder if replacing the damper is a maintenance item after 170,000 or 180,00 miles.

Hi Kevin, not sure about the torq specs on that bolt. However at 112,000 miles I broke a crankshaft on my 95 suburban. All indications pointed to the damper, as my rubber was also distorted. As you mentioned above, several have replaced the bad damper, so I would say thats good insurance. Hope all goes well. smile.gif

Hey Kevin,
I replaced mine at 180K also.
Be aware you may want to replace both dampener and pulley in a set as they both do double duty in my 1996 with rubber isolation on both.

Torqued mine to 150 (max setting on torque wrench), then added a little more with a breaker bar(with a pipe). I must be pretty close to 200. Holding just fine.
