I've been told that the blacker the smoke the better a diesel is running. Mine doesn't make any black smoke, just some gray smoke under full throttle. I was wondering if that means my truck isn't running as well as I though or if black smoke doesn't really = healthy engine.

Black Smoke = unburnt fuel, not efficiently using the fuel charge versus air. When the Turbo goes out you'll get Black smoke, but it's not where you really wanna be.

We've got a lot of Dodge's running around here killing mosquitoes.

Unburnt fuel also = high EGTs.

Light gray smoke in the headlights at WOT is perfect.
